Since I’m nearly finished with Criterion B, and may be absent from school for a while, I went to Hobby Lobby today to pick up supplies for the making of my set designs because that’s the only thing that I currently do not have materials for. I had done a costume moldboard a month or so ago, so I at least had a vision of what I wanted to find - if I didn’t have that then shopping would have been very difficult. I want to do an ethereal production with costumes inspired by Iris van Herpen, and I knew that the scene in the myth took place outside in a valley or a forest, so I decided to go for the whimsical outdoors look. I have done dioramas before, so I know what I like and how to do them - I started first with getting grassy elements like trees, flowers, grass, and the like, and then as I roamed the aisles ideas new thoughts and ideas would pop into my head, and I would grab those things that prompted the thought. After maybe 20 minutes of careful shopping, I sat down in the grassy aisle I started in and sorted through what I had. I ended up finding a base made especially for dioramas that was more or less the correct size for a scale model of The Met, which I will use instead of building an entire set made of foam core or museum board.
