Today I began my costume design. I decided to design a dress for the goddess Athena, but I want it to be warrior-chic. I’ve never designed a costume before, though, so I was having a bit of trouble. I used the picture of a model and copied the pose, and then I started to sketch the outline of the top (which I want to be like armor) and the outline of the bottom (a flowy, more feminine skirt with chainmail somehow incorporated), but neither were very good. I used my moldboard for inspiration on the top - I used the quarter circle sleeve from the picture of Cate Blanchett as inspiration for the right sleeve. I came up with the chainmail slit on my own, and I though a belt for a sword or some other weapon might help make it look more warrior-y, but it didn’t really. Currently it is giving more of a Renaissance-Festival-Robin-Hood’s-female-sidekick look, which needs to be fixed. I took a break because I was becoming exasperated, but I’ll try to finish it up tomorrow or at least sometime this week.
